Guidelines For Net Proceeds 

TAB New Zealand mainly applies the net proceeds generated from its Class 4 Gaming Operation to its own Racing Authorised Purposes for the Promotion, Control and Conduct of a Race Meeting (as defined in the Racing Act 2003). TAB NZ has determined that at least 80% of its net proceeds shall be applied to Racing Authorised Purposes.

TAB NZ will also distribute net proceeds to the communities of New Zealand, in accordance with its Sports Authorised Purpose, and has determined that up to 20% of its net proceeds shall be distributed under its Sports Authorised Purposes.

Funding Information

All funding is subject to availability of funds and compliance with the Sports Authorised Purposes statement and the eligibility and prioritisation policy for the distribution of class 4 net proceeds.

Retrospective applications will not be approved.

All grants must be applied to specific and future purposes. That is, grant applications must be received by and processed before the actual event is held or cost(s) incurred. It is recommended that applications be received at least six weeks prior to the event for our processing purposes. A valid application contains all the required documentation as outlined in the checklist contained within the grant application form.

The completion of an grant application form does not constitute approval of the request for funds or, if approved, does not mean that further payments to the same recipient or for the same purpose will be approved in the future.

The grant application form must be completed by the applicant only.

If an applicant is GST registered, only the GST exclusive amount can be funded (as GST is not a real cost to the organisations).

TAB operators cannot make any decisions or recommendations about applications and cannot receive completed Grant Application forms. These must be forwarded directly to us by mail to:

Annual Review Of Grants Process

TAB New Zealand (formerly the New Zealand Racing Board) commenced Class 4 gaming operations on 8 August 2011, and is required to conduct an annual review of the current criteria, methods, systems and policies that have been implemented when considering the distribution of the net proceeds from Class 4 gambling. The review will conducted on or before each anniversary.

Net Proceeds Meeting Dates

All applications must be received by TAB NZ by 5pm on the final received date in order for the application to be considered at the next Net Proceeds Committee Meeting. Applications not received by this date will be deferred until the next meeting.

December 2021 NPC Meeting Cancelled

Regrettably, TAB New Zealand have cancelled the NPC meeting scheduled for 2 December 2021 due to a lack of funds available.

With many of our TAB stores being unable to operate recently under Alert Levels 3 and 4 due to Covid-19 restrictions, we have not been able to generate enough proceeds beyond our commitments to the New Zealand racing industry (at least 80% of the proceeds generated from our gaming operation will be applied under the TAB NZ 'Racing' Authorised Purposes) at this stage.

For further information regarding Net Proceeds Meeting dates, please contact the TAB NZ Gaming team on (04) 576 6999.* All other application close 5pm on the 'Final Received Date'. Applications that are received after the 'Final Received Date' are unlikely to be considered for the meeting, and automatically placed into the next scheduled meeting. Photocopied, scanned or faxed applications will not be accepted. It is recommended that all original documentation be couriered if it has not been mailed at least one week prior to the 'Final Received Date'.

All complaints received will be investigated by the Head of Retail and Gaming and referred to the Board for prompt resolution (if required). If a satisfactory resolution cannot be achieved, independent mediation will be sought to resolve any outstanding issues.
