About us
As New Zealand’s only legalised sports and racing betting provider, TAB NZ has a responsibility to minimise harm associated with its products. This responsibility extends beyond the requirements set out under the Racing Industry Act 2020 and the Gambling Act 2003. We go beyond the standards set out in legislation in many significant ways.
Although most New Zealanders gamble without experiencing any harm, a proportion do experience some form of harm, and this can impact them in different ways. As set out in the TAB NZ Harm Prevention and Minimisation Policy, we are committed to promoting safer betting and have various options in place to help minimise the potential harm that can arise with betting.
At TAB, we strive to display a sense of social responsibility by taking into account our communities we operate within. We continue to evolve our harm minimisation approach in tandem with any research evidence, population needs, or any development of new tools or technology. As part of this process, we are committed to:
- Working in partnership with health and help service providers to ensure our harm minimisation initiatives achieve the best possible outcomes;
- Trialling and implementing new or emerging technology to make the betting environment safer for customers;
- Reviewing processes, procedures, and commitments to identify areas where our harm minimisation programme can be improved.
- Informing our customers of harm minimisation options available to help them manage their betting experience in a way that suits their circumstances.
We have a range of support options and measures to help ensure your betting remains safe, fun and exciting.
We also have a team of dedicated staff well versed in providing advice and assistance. We regularly make contact with our customers where we’ve identified there may be some element of risk to make sure customers are informed and aware of their activity, as well as providing safer betting options and external support sources.
Consider your circumstances
We want to ensure that our customers consider their health and wealth situation, so betting with the TAB remains a safe, fun, enjoyable and thrilling experience. Please remember that betting should never be looked at as a means of relieving financial, professional or personal difficulties of any kind. If betting with TAB is just not fun anymore, or is harming you or someone you know, contact our team of expert advisors to help find solutions or to assist in abstaining from betting - [email protected]
TAB are committed to ensuring that Minors (under 18 years of age) cannot bet on TAB accounts or in retail stores. It is an offence for a person under 18 to bet, and for a person to place a bet on behalf of a person under 18.

Request an exclusion or close your account
TAB Account Exclusion
You can exclude yourself from betting on your TAB account for a period of up to five years or permanently. Account exclusions cannot be undone for any reason. Once your exclusion period ends, and you decide you’d like to bet again, you will need to contact us first and decide on a mandatory deposit limit that cannot be altered. Contact the team at [email protected] if you think that an account only exclusion could help you.
Retail Exclusion
We run a retail exclusion programme for both our pokie machine and TAB venues. This exclusion programme allows you to block yourself from entering and gambling at any TAB venues around the country. Information regarding exclusion options is available in stores, or you can call TAB Customer Services on 0800 102 106 for more information. Alternatively, see our Exclusion request forms further below.

Account Closure
You can close your TAB account from the account controls section of your account dashboard at any time. If you would like to reopen your account at a later time, you will need to call TAB Customer Services on 0800 102 106. Multiple closures with re-opening requests will be forwarded to our team for further investigation and discussion with you.
Set a deposit limit
Available in the Account Controls section of your TAB account, you can set specific daily, weekly or monthly deposit limits. If you would like to discuss having a daily or weekly Deposit Limit you are unable to alter yourself, please contact the team at [email protected] and they can assist to put this in place for you.
Decreasing your Limits: lower your limits at any time via the Account Controls section of your account dashboard.
Increasing Your Limits: to ensure it’s not a spur-of-the-moment decision that may not be in your best interests, any increase is subject to a mandatory cool down period that cannot be overridden, even by TAB staff.
How the Limit works:
- For example, If you have set a rolling 7-day weekly deposit limit, you can keep track on how much you have left to deposit by using your account transaction history:
- Select 'Transaction History'
- Use the filters to select 'Deposits' and a Time Period of '7 Days'.
- The result will show you how much you have already deposited in the last 7 days and then you can work out how much left you can deposit. For example, if it comes up with $50 worth of deposits so far in these 7 days, and you have a weekly limit of $80, then you should be able to deposit a further $30.
Signs that betting may be harmful
Safer betting means that you stay within your own personal limits of time and money, balanced with any personal responsibilities you may have. If you think that you, or someone you know, may be experiencing issues with betting, here are some signs to keep an eye out for:
- mood swings or outbursts brought on by betting
- attempting to hide your betting from family or friends, or being dishonest about your betting
- trying to borrow money for the purpose of betting more
- betting for long periods without breaks, or prioritising betting over other personal responsibilities
- betting most days of the week
- betting more and more to try and recover your losses
- organising yourself a limit, but not being able to stick it
- betting is no longer fun and is causing regret or distress.
If you recognise any of these signs, and think that you or someone you know might need help, it is readily available. You can contact any of the support services listed further above, or you can contact TAB directly at [email protected].
Take a break
You can elect to take a break from your TAB account for a specified period of either one day (1), seven days (7), fourteen days (14) or thirty days (30). When you take a break, you will not be able to access your account on that device, place any bets through your account, or receive any TAB promotional material during the specified period.
Removal from promotional emails: you can unsubscribe from receiving TAB promotional material (even without utilising the Take a Break feature) via your profile in the account dashboard or by unsubscribing from within any TAB promotional email you receive.
