The transitional racing calendar for the remainder of the 2019/20 season (May, June and July) has been confirmed today (1 May) by the RITA Dates Committee and sees the resumption of greyhound racing on 5 May, harness racing on 29 May and thoroughbred racing on 3 July. This revised calendar, which features racing at a significantly reduced number of tracks, reflects industry measures to restrict travel, minimise interactions and keep all participants safe. The calendar follows confirmation this week from RITA of industry funding for the transitional period.
Return to racing protocols operating under Alert Level 3 and 2 have been approved by WorkSafe NZ and the implementation will be managed directly between the racing code and the stakeholders to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all persons who may be required on site. The Codes will also address any regional travel restrictions with their participants.
Key updates to the draft calendar following consultation:
Eight additional greyhound meetings, with racing commencing on 5 May
An additional harness meeting on 7 June
Adjusted start times for greyhound and harness dual meetings due to COVID-19 restrictions and kenneling times, with NZMTC Friday licences in June reverting to night meetings
